Chapter 1: What lies ahead

"Land ahead!" shouted the anchor's man as he took site of the magnificent Port of Coimbra. One of the larger cities of Granado Espada, and is central to trade and market as this is the city where visitors and pioneers alike do their trade and begin their adventures.

A melting pot of cultures as citizens from Brestia, Orpesia and Vespanola, to name only a few, as inhabitants of this famous and cheerful city. Sunsets are always magnificent that those who will see the sunset for the first time would be in a state of awe and those who always witness the sunset every break of dusk still a panoramic view.

"Reminds Nunez of the Baleares Naval Battle..." as Captain Ricardo of the Pinta contemplates loudly, wide eyes, staring at the beautiful horizon, where the sea meets the sky and the sun at the center like an red-orange eye illuminating the sky with a yellowish hue. Captain Ricardo talks about the previous naval battle that he himself have taken part of, which leads to the end of the Three Year War. The anchor of the Red Fleet reminds the citizens of Coimbra of this event.

"So where are you from again?" Ricardo asks, massaging his chin as if in contemplation.
"Luxem, its a..."
"A small kingdom across the mountain ranges east of Vespanola." Ricardo interrupts, "Yes, I've heard of it."
The male scout then looks at Ricardo, "We weren't the first Luxems here?"
"There are many ships that travel from Vespanola to Granado Espada, Pinta is only one of them. I may have met Luxem-borne families, probably one or two. I may have seen more, but I may have mistaken them for Vespanolans though."
The male scout nods his head. Like most nearby nations, Luxem and Vespanola probably share the same racial ancestry where only feudal lords of old time have divided the two into separate kingdoms. Vespanola expanded her territory while Luxem remained secluded on the mountain ranges.
"I didn't get your name." Ricardo asks.
"Lucius Silva." The male scout answers. Then the crest he wears on his right chest appears visible as he moves his arms to hold the railings of the Pinta.
"The Crest of Rose and Thorn." Ricardo mutters.
"So you have met Luxems."
"Yes, about 30 days or so ago. They were wearing the same crest."
"The Crest of Rose and Thorn can only be worn by the members of the five families of Luxem. You must have met the Reichters."
"Yes, I believe I have. They are a quiet bunch tough." Ricardo states.

Then the nearby staircase started sounding of creaks as a beautiful lady appears from below the deck. "Lady Lucrezia Silva," Ricardo bowed. Lucius bowed also in respect.
"Please please, we are no longer in Luxem, formalities are not necessary." Lucrezia said in a commanding voice, but still with a tone of politeness and respect.

The other crew members of the Pinta started moving in a systematic manner as they were trained to do as they were nearing the Port. Ricardo took this sign as he left their side and headed for the door leading towards the bridge.

"Lady Lucrezia, the Reichters have boarded the same ship as expected. I heard from other passengers that they are most probably in the City of Auch since most pioneers stay there as they consider it as the last city before the frontier." Lucius says.
Lucrezia nodded, "We should meet with them first as the King requests, then we join the pioneers at the frontiers of Granado Espada."

Lucius remembers the King's orders clearly. Although he does not approve of it, he shares the same sentiments with the First Daughter, Lucrezia, they do not have any choice as this is the choice of their King and as members of the Second Family, they must serve as examples of service and loyalty for the rest of Luxem.

After an expected bump, they knew the Pinta is firmly anchored to soil, as the Silva Family's resolves are firmly anchored to their responsibility for their country.

As the Silva Family sets on new soil, they prepare for what lies ahead as they ask, "What lies ahead?"
